This activity has students decode interesting facts about the process while practicing reading comprehension and research writing.

Perfect for centers, independent work, or as a fun twist on print & go activities.

  • Deductive Logic

Close Reading CHALLENGES include:

  • Informational Text- The Engineering Design Process: How it Can Help You Solve Everyday Problems
  • Breakout Task 1- Plot an Escape: Vocabulary Word Match
  • Breakout Task 2- Gather Resources: Identify True or False Statements
  • Breakout Task 3- Use Deductive Logic: Fill in the Blanks
  • Breakout Task 4- Scour the Scene: Find Sentences in a Paragraph
  • Breakout Task 5- Decipher the Clues: Use the Pig Pen cipher to answer 3 riddles
  • Complete an Exit Ticket: Fill in the Code. Respond to 3 reading comprehension statements.
  • BONUS: Writing Prompt | Research a Famous Failure Invention

Approximately 1+ hours of Activities (8 separate activities for all at once or separately)

Grades 4-8

All tasks in this challenge are related to the DESIGN PROCESS and require students to use several reading comprehension skills.
