Description

❖ Mathematical Practice 3 emphasize that students should be able to critique the reasoning of others ❖.

How often do we wish to stop the common mistakes from occurring? How often do we wish to emphasize to our students not to make a particular error? How often do we wish that we could show our students all the "possible" common errors and have them analyze it?

This product contains "ERROR ANALYSIS" cards which deal with common mistakes which occur while Finding the Domain & Range of a Relation and determining whether a given relation is a Function or NOT.

I have comprised a list of possible mistakes that students make when they're asked to find domain, range, and determine if a relation is a function and included these mistakes in cards.

In this set of Error Analysis Cards:
✐ 4 Cards use the "Ordered Pair" Representation of Relations
✐ 6 Cards use the "Mapping Diagram" or "Venn Diagram" Representation of Relations
✐ 5 Cards use "Charts" or "Tables" Representation of Relations
✐ 15 Cards use "Graphs" (Discrete & Continuous) Representation of Relations [Domain & Range are listed using Interval Notation]

Common Mistakes such as:
☑ Switching the Domain & Range (all representations)
☑ Not accurately understating the definition of a Function where "x" can't repeat but alright if "y" repeats (all representations)
☑ Incorrectly writing the interval notation representing the Domain and/or Range

Many more common mistakes are illustrated in these cards. A "POSSIBLE" answer key is provided. Please use your own way of rewriting/rewording the answer key to bond with your students.

Students will be engaged in these 30 Error Analysis cards. In each of the cards, a relation is given with the wrong Domain, Range, and/or being a Function. The student will be asked to:

1. Identify the error and explain it
2. Solve the problem correctly
3. Provide a helpful strategy or hint to avoid making this mistake in the future.

You could provide the student with the Error Analysis card to answer on it, or, use the attached Recording Sheet.

When could you use Error Analysis Cards?

Here are some suggestions:

☑ Cooperative Learning
☑ Pair Share
☑ Centers
☑ Warm-Ups (to do now/Bell work)
☑ Enrichment
☑ Assessment
☑ Entrance/Exit Ticket
☑ When some time is left at the end of the class regardless of the topic being taught
☑ Homework assignment
☑ Review before a quiz (major test) on this concept
☑ with Communicators
☑ .... etc. (Be creative :-) )

FREEBIE * Error Analysis - MATH.

This FREEBIE is to include a sample of some ERROR ANALSYS cards that I design including this one. I am hoping that it will help our students to be better in their critiquing skills and avoid making the common mistakes.

More products to come in the area of ERROR ANALYSIS on other topics of Algebra I and Algebra II.

My honors students liked the change in pace where they had to find and explain. I have a hybrid classroom and this was really easy for distance learning.
