Essential Spiral Math Homework for Fourth Grade – First Nine Weeks

How can a teacher help students maintain mastery of previously taught math concepts? Essential Spiral Math Homework was created to do just that! Rather than just concentrating on a topic and then progress to the next topic, Essential Spiral Math Homework spreads the learning over time, thus continually reviewing previous understanding and slowly integrating new concepts in a common sense progression and pace. This approach is believed to enhance not only understanding but also helps in long-term retention.

Essential Spiral Math Homework contains daily math homework (Monday through Thursday). Each sheet consists of 10 to 20 problems that vary from basic algorithms, conceptual development, modeling, and problem solving. Each page is clearly labeled with the Common Core Standards and has an answer key. There is also a guide showing the sequencing and pacing of Common Core Standards.

This nine week pack covers:

1) Place value to the thousands and millions (4.NBT.A.1)
2) Read, write, compare, and ordering numbers (4.NBT.A.2)
3) Rounding multi-digit numbers (4.NBT.A.3)
4) Addition and subtraction of multi-digit numbers (4.NBT.B.4)
5) Determine meanings of Multiplication and Division (4.OA.A.1 and 4.OA.A.2)
6) Determining factor pairs and multiples (4.OA.B.4)
7) Analyzing shape and numerical patterns (4.OA.C.5)
8) Solving multistep word problems (4.OA.A.3)
9) Multiplying multi-digit numbers by a single digit (4.NBT.B.5)

Why is this spiral homework different from others?

• Repetitive like other spiral content; however, it constantly varies the way in which questions are asked to keep students thinking

• Requires complete written answers and increases in rigor as the quarter progresses

• Questions employ math content vocabulary in questioning which especially helps English Language Learners vocabulary development

This is intended for classroom use by a single teacher. Please support the hard work put into this material by using it as intended.

The way this product spirals the homework is like nothing else I have ever soon. It helps students who are struggling by going over it everyday again until they get it.

Recognize that in a multi-digit whole number, a digit in one place represents ten times what it represents in the place to its right. For example, recognize that 700 ÷ 70 = 10 by applying concepts of place value and division.
Read and write multi-digit whole numbers using base-ten numerals, number names, and expanded form. Compare two multi-digit numbers based on meanings of the digits in each place, using >, =, and < symbols to record the results of comparisons.
