Description

Trying to explain the European Union to a middle school student can be difficult, I created an activity to get this vague concept to the middle school level! That's why I created a simulation that guides students through the benefits and difficulties that the EU faces!

Whats included in the student led activity with reading, comprehension, and activity packet?
1. Pre-content thinking: Benefits of a common back yard

2. Reading: European Union Origins, Purpose, and the Euro!

3. Worksheet: European Union Origins and Purpose

4. Create your own EU – Back yard edition

- Assignment cards describing their back yard

- Rights of the members of their yard

- Backyard constitution

- Reflection sheet

Doing more stuff with Europe? Check out my Physical features reading, worksheet, and map labeling activity!

I loved this resource! My students got really into the discussions on the backyards. It was so good to see them thinking (especially at the end of the year!). My only complaint was there were some minor spelling/grammar mistakes in the reading. Thank you so much!

This resource was helpful in the study of the European Union. The students were put in a position to use critical thinking. It caused them to really think about cause and effect. They had a great time working combing their neighborhoods and deciding what would be allowable and what would not be allowed.

This resource was a good way for students to think about how countries of the EU work together. It made the concepts relatable by connecting it to something familiar to them. They also liked the structured group work.

This helped explain a difficult concept for my 7th graders. The scenario used to explain the EU was perfect for my students. I will be using again.
