I used this break out as a review for activity after returning back from Christmas break. I love that students receive instant feedback. It was also a great review for my students about squaring a negative number. Students were engaged the whole class period work on it and talking with other students about how to know which equation to use. Great activity!

My students initially struggled with piecewise functions, but after completing this activity they really had mastered substituting into piecewise functions.

This resource was great. Some students struggled with not being able to move on until they "broke out" of each part of the room. But I helped navigate them when they got too stuck. Students like being able to solve a puzzle more than just completing homework. Questions were well formatted and puzzle worked well.
