Description

Engage your students as they write the equations for eight exponential growth and decay function word problems and then solve them in this no-prep, self-checking, digital mystery picture activity. This activity ensures students can correctly write the equations and solve the problems, and gives them immediate feedback as they do so. A printable student worksheet is included, which can be used as a paper activity option or as a recording sheet for students to show their work. Your students will love digitally solving the puzzle and revealing the mystery picture as they correctly answer each question.

What's Included in the PDF Download?

  • Link to the self-checking digital activity using Google Sheets
  • A printable student worksheet (with the same questions as the digital activity)
  • Answer Key

How does it work?

If your students answer each problem correctly, the answer box will turn green, and part of the picture will appear. If they answer incorrectly, the box will turn red. Your students will see a complete picture when all the problems are answered correctly!

Please note that this activity is made for use with Google Sheets.

All you need to do is assign this to students on any platform you can assign Google Sheets (i.e., Google Classroom). Make sure to select the option to make a copy for each student.

Use the properties of exponents to interpret expressions for exponential functions. For example, identify percent rate of change in functions such as y = (1.02) to the š˜µ power, š˜ŗ = (0.97) to the š˜µ power, š˜ŗ = (1.01) to the 12š˜µ power, š˜ŗ = (1.2) to the š˜µ/10 power, and classify them as representing exponential growth or decay.
Construct linear and exponential functions, including arithmetic and geometric sequences, given a graph, a description of a relationship, or two input-output pairs (include reading these from a table).
