Description

This step by step, discussion driven, no-prep notes and practice set that covers Exponential Regression is a great way to teach & introduce how to write, using technology, exponential functions that provide a reasonable fit to data and make predictions for real-world problems to your students. The first page of the notes is more instructional and goes over the key strokes necessary to input data in the calculator with an example containing 4 follow up questions to discuss together.  The second page can be used as independent practice or as guided practice, where students work independently, with a partner or within a small group. This set’s practice has 15 scaffolded problems.  Students and teachers love how easy these notes are to follow and understand.

These notes give a very structured procedural approach to finding a reasonable fit to data with exponential functions.  The practice problems included are scaffolded so that they begin at more of an entry level difficulty and then progress into a deeper complexity to encourage problem solving and “productive struggle”.

to see state-specific standards (only available in the US).
Create equations in two or more variables to represent relationships between quantities; graph equations on coordinate axes with labels and scales.
Graph exponential and logarithmic functions, showing intercepts and end behavior, and trigonometric functions, showing period, midline, and amplitude.
Use the properties of exponents to interpret expressions for exponential functions. For example, identify percent rate of change in functions such as y = (1.02) to the 𝘵 power, 𝘺 = (0.97) to the 𝘵 power, 𝘺 = (1.01) to the 12𝘵 power, 𝘺 = (1.2) to the 𝘵/10 power, and classify them as representing exponential growth or decay.
