Exponents Coloring Activity
Share

Description

This is a one-sided coloring page with 14 questions over the basic understandings of exponents.

Questions vary from evaluating an exponential expression such as 4^2 to finding the value of the exponent given the base and the answer (7^? = 343) to identifying the base and the exponent in a simple expression. A power of zero is included in one question. Two other questions ask about the expansion of an exponential expression.

Each question comes with 2 or 3 answer choices. The student uses their selection to color a tessellation design. The tessellation design is extended so that the student can continue to color the design based upon the pattern if desired. Why not color something mathematical?! Key included.

It was good practice, but the kids wondered why the numbers weren't in all of the shapes.

I included some of the tessellation without numbers so that students could continue to color the design using the pattern if desired. However, coloring the entire tessellation is optional. They only have to color the part with numbers in it.
