Description

I'm a big believer that assessments should be primarily about making sure that everyone understands your teaching. And in math, they need to contain all the major points of confusion, so quizzes are ideal if they involve problems that "look similar", but involve different concepts.

You can give students the second or third round of the quiz if they need to prove mastery of the subject matter. I tell them I keep the highest grade of any of the quizzes, which motivates and focuses them.
