Description
"Express Yourself" (Math About Me)
This is an activity geared toward the middle school and high school students as an activity using "EXPRESS"ions to tell the class about them.
Students can use their knowledge of mathematical operators such as: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions, decimals, percents, square roots, and exponents to communicate numerical information about themselves.
(There are 15 ideas provided for the students in the download. They can of course come up with their own too.)
For example;
I don't want them to tell me they were born in 1997. Instead that they were born in 19(100) + 97.
If the students are 13 years old, maybe they could tell me they are 5^2 - ( 6 • 2) instead.
Maybe they wear a size 10 shoe. They can tell me it is a 108/9 - 2 size shoe.
Included in this download are 3 attractive templates, each spanning two sheets of printer paper, that allow the creator of the poster to spread their personal information across 17 x 22 inches of space.
I have also included an 3 other one page templates for the students to use in case space to display the posters is an issue. (There is an accompanying direction sheet for the one page template too.)
These look great posted in the hallway or in the classroom; just want administrators love to see. Very colorful and personalized to the students!
As an added bonus to this project, I am using this as a beginning of the year activity as we are all getting acquainted with each other. I am adding a few points for the students presenting their poster to the class too!
