Description
This resource includes a Google Slides presentation on external text structures and a Google Slides presentation on internal text features (two slideshows in all). Both slideshows define each feature/structure and give an example. The external text structures slideshow has practice slides throughout. I prefer to have my students take notes on these slides as I teach them.
External text structures included in slideshow:
- Boldface
- Italics
- Colored text
- Underlining
- Indentation
- Sidebar
- Illustration
- Graphic
- Photograph
- Heading
- Subheading
- Footnote
Internal text features included in slideshow:
- Cause and effect
- Comparison/contrast
- Enumeration or listing
- Sequential or chronological
- Concept/definition
- Generalization
- Problem/solution
- Process
***Bonus: I enjoy having my students complete an external text structures project every year. We have done so both virtually on Google Classroom and physically using construction paper and magazines. I have included my rubric for this project and a virtual student example. Enjoy!
