Description

THIS IS JUST A SMALL SAMPLE OF MY MODULE. MY HOPE IS TO GIVE YOU AN IDEA OF WHAT I'VE CREATED BEFORE YOU PURCHASE THIS MODULE.

Tired of the reams of paper you go through teaching Engage NY? My Interactive Notebook might be the answer to your prayers!

This is my LEAST favorite module to teach. It has too much prep and not enough instruction on multiple strategies. This is the only module in which I deviate from the curriculum and while I do this purposefully, I do keep to the scope and sequence of Engage NY.

My goal for this project was to cut back on the amount of paper used in class, create a student-friendly layout, and cut back on unnecessary (in my opinion) work.

Each lesson contains problems modified from the problem set and in some rare cases from the homework pages. The problems have been carefully chosen to inspire discussion and learning. I tried to create pages that would help students learn without getting overwhelmed. This Engage NY module introduces measurement concepts, rounding, and addition & subtraction strategies. I do not focus on the traditional algorithm in the addition & subtraction pages, rather, I have students work using multiple strategies to emphasis place value understanding.

Many of the lessons also include an additional page of foldables for student practice. Each foldable page includes instructions. Of course, the foldables are optional.

In order to cut back on paper, the fluency sections in my lessons can replace the fluency/sprint pages. You can still time students in this section – give students approximately 10 seconds per problem. Or you can leave it for practice. Instead of making a paper copy of fluency practice and a problem set, you make one copy for each student.

In my classroom I shrink each page 93% and we glue each page in a composition book. This gives me, my students, and their parents a great record of mathematics learning and a quick look at what students are not understanding.
