Description

A 6-question FREEBIE task card activity that covers using variables and creating simple equations in order to represent quantities in a real-world problem and solve by reasoning about the quantities. Students will have to: create variables and simple equations to model the context of a real-world problem and subsequently use this equation to problem solve. This is a sample of my 30-question task card activity which can be found here:

Two-Step Equations Word Problems Task Cards

Perfect resource with a variety of possible applications. It can be posted around the room as a way to get students out of their seats, and also works tremendously with individual whiteboards and markers!

Aligned with the Common Core State Standards. Questions are aligned with the following standard(s):

  • 6.EE.7 (Solve real-world and mathematical problems by writing and solving equations of the form x + p = q and px = q for cases in which p, q and x are all nonnegative rational numbers.)
  • 7.EE.4 (Use variables to represent quantities in a real-world or mathematical problem, and construct simple equations and inequalities to solve problems by reasoning about the quantities.)

An answer key is provided towards the end of the PDF document.
