This reading log is meant to be clipped into a binder or put in a folder so that a student can keep track of which books they read during free reading time. In my classroom, students read independently from my shelves of children's books at the beginning of class twice a week. I don't like attaching a grade to this activity, nor do I have any true accountability for it but I DO like to see which books students have been choosing. This helps me to see which ones are popular, which ones might need a little book talk/advertising on my part or a change in display to entice readers to choose them and which types of books are most popular for pleasure reading so that I can keep an eye out for more of those styles/genres/series.
Most other reading logs I have seen have some sort of reflection piece attached, or ask for a parent's signature. I wanted a simple form for students to write which books they are reading and how far they got in the book during reading time so that they can easily find their place next time if it is a longer book.
