Description

PLEASE READ CAREFULLY....This resource consists of 10 different google slides for use as collaboratives boards for working on basic conversation skills (asking questions and making comments).  Each slide provides a small bit of biographical information about a fictive character and five sets of different colored 'sticky notes' for individual student comments.

These slides allow for you, as a speech-language pathologist or teacher, to discuss the various appropriate (and inappropriate) questions you can ask, based upon what you know about the fictive character.  It provides the context to discuss and practice commenting, often overlooked and under-targeted with older students with communication disorders.  You can work on agreement (I like to bake, too)... disagreement (I prefer to play football instead of baseball)... and conversation continuers, like “I don’t know much about karate” or “That sounds interesting, I wish I had the chance to go there.”

Each collaborative board is identified by a fictive Name.  Outside of the ‘page borders,” along the left hand side of the “page” is a set of 5 different colored ‘sticky notes’ (there is also a set of grey stickies, for you - as a teacher to use as needed).  You can share each google slide with students you work with in person, remote and/or hybrid.  Each student can choose (or be assigned) a colored sticky note.  Each student can use their sticky notes to write a comment - or a question, depending upon your verbal instruction… and post these notes on top of the presented slide.  Everyone will be able to see the sticky note contents.  This allows for group conversation which can cover topics such as appropriateness, whether this comment or question is redundant (already provided within the description), if the student’s attempt met the criteria of a question or comment, was it on topic or unrelated?
