Description
Common Core Aligned Fact Fluency Pack :
This specific pack is aimed at fact fluency in addition for the intermediate grades (could easily be modified for second graders as well as for children receiving math tutoring). The pack includes a table of contents, directions, explanation of "Math Sprint" routine, list of "Math Energizers", bar graphs and line graphs for students to track individual progress, 6 different math sprints (12 if you count "Sprint A" and "Sprint B"), answer keys for all sprints for easy correcting, and blank sprint templates for you to create your own as well.
How Math Sprints Work:
Time students for 1 minute on Sprint A. Their goal is to answer as many problems correctly as they can. Correct it together. Do a "Math Energizer". Time students for 1 minute on Sprint B. Their goal is to beat the number right on their first sprint. Correct it together. Students see how much they improve by (Difference between Sprint A and Sprint B). They track this progress on a line graph and/or bar graph. Teacher collects the corrected sprints and tracks in grade book.
These work far better than traditional mad minutes because they're highly engaging to the children. They are also much easier for the teacher to track student progress than traditional mad minutes. Fluency will be heightened as you use and reuse these sprints - I stick to the same one for a few weeks before moving on. I also spiral back to do earlier sprints to help my students stay on top of fact fluency.
Common Core Aligned: Fluently add/subtract; Determine unknown whole number.
