More about the activity

This is a perfect activity for your first lessons in computer coding for kids. It covers both reading and writing code. It incorporates fall/autumn theme which makes it a great resource for integrating with other subjects during the fall season.

This resource was meant to be used as a classroom activity and has a couple of variations: individual work, classroom center activity, or pair/group activity. You can explain the rules to students, give them the resources and ask them to work independently.

Two kinds of unplugged coding tasks:

- Follow/read the code

- Write the code

Differentiation in the classroom

Tasks can be made harder by setting a timer, asking them to find alternative paths, or finding the longest/shortest route.

Optional

Counters or arrows can be used to support students to mark the squares that are part of the program path.

In case you do not have counters at hand, bottle caps can be used.
