Famous Mathematician Poster Project
Share

Description

Mix a little history into your math class. Have your students research a famous mathematician and learn a little about where their favorite formula or concept came from! Included in this project is complete instruction sheet, scoring rubric and student self-assessment form. This project could easily be done in 2-3 class periods or as an outside of class project. The presentation portion is optional but highly recommended to give students more public speaking experience. This is geared towards Middle School/Junior High School math courses, but could be adapted to higher level courses as well.

This was a great project as I was looking for something different. Students seem to enjoy this project.

My students loved this as a break in the curriculum! It was a great way for them to learn about the history of math and will hopefully appreciate it more as a whole!

I used this to kick off our PreCalculus and Honors Calculus distance learning. Although it broke from our planned topics, I felt it allowed my students to engage in math concepts while getting accustomed to distance learning. The students had various methods for creating an "electronic poster," and they all did an excellent job of meeting the project requirements.
