Description
This short script on FIGURATIVE LANGUAGE involves students in reading and reviewing information about words that express ideas in imaginative ways -- making writing more creative! The script incorporates humor and contemporary language and references. It’s part of a collection in my book CURRICULUM-BASED READERS THEATRE SCRIPTS: LANGUAGE ARTS.
This script is written for solo speakers with many parts for ALL so that teachers can use it with a whole class. Reading and rehearsing the script provides an introduction and review of several ways to make reading and writing more interesting. The script also offers a way of increasing reading fluency and engaging students in a dramatic approach to learning facts. Students enjoy creating and performing gestures and sound effects where indicated in the stage directions. And—because it is a script—they do not mind reading and re-reading the information. This Curriculum-Based Readers Theatre script is one of many I have created with students and teachers across the United States.

Every single CBRTT script from Rosalind Flynn is AMAZING! I have been using them for years and the students and I never get tired of them! There is always such room for creativity and fun and it truly helps bring a lesson to life while helping with understanding. I am now an arts integration specialist and push in to regular classrooms and utilize these scrips as a way to review or reteach material students are struggling with. While working on the ELA content we also work on our "actor's tools" at the same time. Thank you!!
Thanks, Tarah! What a great review to read! It's so great to know that schools are still valuing arts integration because it's such an effective tool to have in a teaching repertoire!
My ELA Lab students loved this activity. We'd been reviewing figurative language in all sorts of ways for the final term of the year. My students really "hammed" it up once they got the hang of it.
I bought the other script as well!
I am so pleased to learn of your success and your students' enthusiasm! Isn't it great when students "ham it up" when the time is right to do so? Thanks for taking the time to share your classroom victory!
I love this resource so much. After recent testing data review i noticed that my students were having trouble with figurative language, This theater was amazing I assigned it to groups of students where they were able to work in a small group and then put on a commercial in front of the class it was so much fun and everyone was laughing and engaged in learning at the same time. Thumbs up!!!
Wow! I give your review a huge "Thumbs up!" Thank you so much for taking the time to let me know that the script was both effective and fun! (Always a goal in arts education!)
Absolutely love this resource and my kids learned exceptionally well using it!
