This Figurative Language resource can be used as a card work in a Montessori classroom or center work in a traditional classroom. This work can be completed independently or in small groups.

This resource includes the sorting cards and an answer key as the control. The sorting cards include 7 types of figurative language headings, their definitions, and 3 examples of each type. Students will read the phrases or sentences and sort them under the correct heading.

The following types of figurative language are included:

2. metaphor
3. personification
4. idiom
5. hyperbole
6. onomatopoeia
7. alliteration
