Description

This financial literacy unit allows students to explore how different types of taxes and deductions impact their net income. They will learn about federal income taxes, including how to calculate them based on income brackets. The unit will also cover state income tax, with a focus on the difference between flat and progressive tax systems. Students will understand how Social Security and Medicare taxes contribute to their paychecks, as well as how insurance premiums (such as health, life, and disability insurance) are deducted from wages. Through practical examples and hands-on calculations, students will gain a clear understanding of how gross income is adjusted for taxes and deductions, ultimately leading to the calculation of net income. This unit will provide valuable knowledge for managing personal finances and making informed decisions about income and deductions in the workforce.
