Description

Build essential visual discrimination and categorization skills with this “Find the one that are the same” resource! This engaging activity teaches learners to identify groups of identical or matching items, helping to strengthen foundational skills for early learning and ABA programs. This resource can be easily adapted for learners at different levels and is ideal for building foundational skills needed for assessments such as the VB-MAPP and ABLLS-R.

This resource includes 3 levels of difficulty, with 15 task cards per level, allowing for systematic skill progression:

  • Level 1: Simple Discrimination – Learners identify the group of identical items among clearly different options (e.g., 2 matching apples vs. a carrot and a banana).
  • Level 2: Complex Discrimination (Similar Items) – Learners identify matching items when stimuli are highly similar, requiring closer attention to details.
  • Level 3: Complex Discrimination (Category-Based) – Learners identify a group of identical items within sets of items from the same category (e.g., 2 different types of grapes vs grapes and an eggplant).

To support generalization, this set includes 2–3 variations of the same items presented in different positions across task cards. This helps ensure learners respond to the relevant features rather than memorizing placement or patterns.

These task cards are ideal for:

  • ABA therapy sessions
  • Task boxes and independent work stations
  • Small group instruction
  • Discrete Trial Training (DTT) and Natural Environment Teaching (NET)

Skills targeted:

  • Visual discrimination
  • Matching and identifying identical items
  • Attention to detail
  • Categorization
  • Early problem-solving

This resource aligns with assessments such as the VB-MAPP and ABLLS-R.
