I have not placed a specific grade on this item so that it can be used for any level. If you used the poem as I've written it, you would need a bag filled with the following: white lunch bags fifth grade specific pencils Welcome bracelet (Really Good Stuff) Eraser Sharpener or sticker - 2 ver

Students will use manila folders to create a book folder presentation where creativity is encouraged. This download includes student directions, a checklist with items that must be included, as well as a general rubric to use for grading. Welcome Poem for a Bag of Treats and First Day Welcome Note for Supplies

Each year I add a new welcome poem to my store and hooray, it's always a freebie! This year, I have changed things up a bit. I had found that putting school supplies in my treat bag on the night of open house meant that students took the supplies home with their treats. Then they were without what they needed on the first day. So I have revised my poem to only include treats. The treats needed for this poem are: Almond Joy, Laffy Taffy, Smarties, Lifesavers, Mounds, Milky Way, Starbursts, and Th

This is a welcome back to school poem to go with a bag or pencil box of supplies for your students. The supplies included for this poem are all supplies that you can easily find during back to school sales! For this poem, you'll need a pencil, erasers (cap ones are a cheaper idea), a pencil sharpener, sticky notes (and they don't have to be Post-its), a highlighter, a pen, and a bookmark (you can even make your own bookmark). There's also a second version that would include the need for a Sha

Experience

I'm currently in my 20th year of teaching, with all of my experience in upper elementary. I've taught 3rd grade, spent over 10 years in 5th grade, and now enjoy teaching fourth grade. As a military wife, I've had the pleasure of teaching in Massachusetts, Washington, Virginia, and I currently teach in California.

Teaching style

I'm a good mix of demonstrator and facilitator, and my style is constantly changing as I adapt to the students in front of me year after year. It is most important to me that I create a safe and positive learning environment where conversations about learning can take place and all moments can be learning moments. I use a great deal of the Responsive Classroom approach, especially when it comes to the first six weeks, modeling (and more modeling and MORE modeling) and academic choice. My students are engaged in every part of their learning experience with lots of opportunities for discussion and movement.

My own education history

A.A.S. in Criminal Justice A.A.S. in Paralegal Studies B.A. in Political Science M.Ed. in Educational Studies They say that experience is your best teacher, and my two years of service with AmeriCorps gave me an incredible experience in the classroom, one that secured a move from the legal field to that of teaching.

Additional biographical information

I love to travel! I think our best education comes from our personal experiences so I try to get out and see new places in our world whenever I can. Then I bring those experiences back to the classroom!
