Description

Crack the code to this alien DJ's secret message in this digital activity by finding slope from a graph, table, two points, and non-standard equations. This self-checking game is out of this world featuring 16 questions for students to practice finding slope of varying difficulty.

⭐ This Space DJ code breaking activity with its 90s vibe will be a huge hit in your classroom!

⭐ Engagement will be out of this world as students try and decipher the alien's secret message!

⭐ Beyond loving the excited buzz of your students, you will LOVE all the time you saved on prepping and grading with this no-prep self-grading digital activity!

Concepts and Problem Types

  • Finding slope in four ways:
  • From a graph (points labeled for clear reading on small screens)
  • From a table
  • From two points
  • From non standard equations (students will need to rearrange terms)

How the activity works

  • Students will uncover a secret symbol for each question number when they answer the question correctly
  • Correct answers will turn green
  • Incorrect answers will turn red, and the associated symbol will continue to get remixed
  • The code-breaking record will continue to spin until all 16 questions are answered correctly
  • Students cannot start to decipher the code until they have finished all 16 questions
  • After finishing the math, they can then match a symbol to a letter on the code-breaking record
  • Then they will write that letter above any boxes in the code for that number
  • Once students have correctly deciphered the secret message, the padlock image will unlock

Additional Features:

  • Grade Score % on assignment displays at the top of the page
  • Task card problems appear as drop down menus, ensuring each question is easily readable
  • Correct answers will turn green
  • Incorrect answers will turn red

This activity is unique from others of its kind because students MUST solve all math problems and cannot guess the answers using letter answer choices as a guide.

Graph proportional relationships, interpreting the unit rate as the slope of the graph. Compare two different proportional relationships represented in different ways. For example, compare a distance-time graph to a distance-time equation to determine which of two moving objects has greater speed.
Construct a function to model a linear relationship between two quantities. Determine the rate of change and initial value of the function from a description of a relationship or from two (𝘹, 𝘺) values, including reading these from a table or from a graph. Interpret the rate of change and initial value of a linear function in terms of the situation it models, and in terms of its graph or a table of values.
Choose and produce an equivalent form of an expression to reveal and explain properties of the quantity represented by the expression.
