Description
Finger Twister is a fun and engaging way to have your kiddos practice the bossy R (r-control vowel)!! I use this game during centers, for a fun wrap up game at the end of a lesson.
Included:
- 1 game board
- 10 levelized lists of bossy r words (2 for each ar, ur, er, ir, or)
- Spinner
- Directions on how to play
How to Play (version 1):
- Place the game board in the center of the table.
- Determine who will be the “spinner” and who will be the players for the game.
- Spinner will not play, but only spins the spinner.
- Place the word cards on the twister board. (make sure players can still see the colored circles)
- Spinner spins the spinner and directs the players where to put their finger.
- Players must correctly read the word where they place their finger.
- A player gets two chances to read the word, if they don’t say it correctly, they are out (make sure you give corrective feedback).
- The last player left in the game is the winner.
How to Play (version 2)
- Print and laminate the spinner and game mat
- Use a pencil and paperclip to create a spinner
- Have a child spin to see which color the finger needs to be placed on
- All students must correctly read a word from any bossy r mat before placing their finger onto the mat
- This is a great time to differentiate and isolate specific difficulties for your students.
- Students can cross the word they read off the mat, so it doesn’t get read again.
- The last player with all of their fingers on the mat wins!
Note: If a player cannot put their finger on an appropriate colored circle, he/she will lose. Also a player may not lift up his/her finger at any point—or they are out.
