Description

This is an emergent reader (professionally illustrated) that can be used for the first day of Kindergarten, after reading the literature selection “The Kissing Hand” by Audrey Penn. The color version can be projected on a interactive whiteboard or the pictures can be copied and placed in a pocket chart along with the text printed on sentence strips.

This is a great way to introduce the reading process to your students by demonstrating the left to right and top to bottom progression in reading.

The text is predictable, allowing students to read (pretend) independently. The black and white version could be copied and sent home with your students to read to their parents. What an impressive way to display all the skills your students will be acquiring during kindergarten!

The craft templates can be used as a follow-up activity.

ENJOY!

Thank you so much for this cute idea for the little ones. I am a fan of the story and I am sure they will be too. Especially being able to take it home to "read"!
