Print, digital and unplugged activities that give First Graders a glimpse of what to look forward to in Library class.
On the first day of library class First Grade will excitedly set goals for their upcoming year. They’ll learn different types of books and series they can find in the library, and different types of activities they can look forward to. They’ll also learn how to sit and listen to a story, and transition from a story to independent work. After downloading this resource you will receive print and digital activities for Grade 1 to learn about the library and set library goals. This resource includes:
- Standards Based lesson that teaches young children what to expect and look forward to in the library. Standards listed below.
- Take Sides activity: directions included to play the game.
- Lesson slideshow: use to facilitate the lesson and support students to follow the school rules as they learn library expectations
- Library Goals Coloring Sheets: students color in the types of books and series they want to read, the number of books they want to borrow, and the activities they’d like to do.
- Library Goals Cut & Paste sheets: students cut out the types of books and series they want to read, and then paste them on a book paper.
- Library Goals Drag & Drop activities for Google Slides and Seesaw
This activity meets the following standards:
AASL: .
- Using reflection to guide informed decisions.
- Actively contributing to group discussions.
- Recognizing capabilities and skills that can be developed, improved, and expanded.
- Open-mindedly accepting feedback for positive and constructive growth.
ISTE:
- Students articulate and set personal learning goals, develop strategies leveraging technology to achieve them and reflect on the learning process itself to improve learning outcomes.
- Students communicate complex ideas clearly and effectively by creating or using a variety of digital objects such as visualizations, models or simulations.
- Participate in collaborative conversations with diverse partners about grade 1 topics and texts with peers and adults in small and larger groups.
