Engage your first graders with this completely independent activity as they enter the room on the first day. While you’re welcoming kids and parents, your new students will have something they can get started on right away. The activities are purposely simple, fun, and lend themselves to working with new friends while engaging in quiet conversation.

I print the entire pack, staple, and place on each student’s desk with a pack of crayons as a warm welcome. It helps the kids immediately feel at ease because that “what do I do now?” feeling is eliminated.
