CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT RESOURCES:

R.E.S.P.E.C.T. Classroom Behavior Management Binder
This streamline behavior management system is highly effective in teaching students to be consistently mindful, respectful, responsible, and independent. The R.E.S.P.E.C.T. system is also a powerful, yet discreet way to hold students accountable for their behavior decisions. When students know they will be asked in a respectful way to reflect on and correct their behavior, respect is given in return. Stigmas of poor behavior created and reinforced by more public behavior management systems like clip charts or red cards are completely eliminated with R.E.S.P.E.C.T. Overall, this system for behavior management both promotes and demonstrates respectful behavior.

Editable Classroom Job Cards
These editable classroom job cards make organizing your classroom
jobs a breeze. Each job title is accompanied by a short job description and behavior reminders to help your students complete each job successfully. Often times, students forget how to properly perform classroom jobs throughout the year. These detailed job cards are a perfect reference throughout the year. Some of the more complicated jobs have more than one card so that multiple students can share that job and feel successful completing it as a team.

Clock Partners: A Management Tool For Pair Sharing & Collaboration
This printable provides you with an easy way to manage student partnerships in your classroom and reduces the amount of time students spend finding a partner during collaboration opportunities. Simply distribute the clock partner sheet to each student in your class (with the clock printed on one side and the Clock Partner Promise Printed on the back). Have students record their 12 different clock partners on the 12 lines around the clock. Some time slots can be reserved for specific partnerships (i.e. writing partners, reading partners) while other can be reserved for student choice. Anytime you want your students to get up and move while learning, you can simply say, “Meet with your ___ o’clock partner.” Students are able to quickly find that partner, and share without any wasted time.

A Lesson On Following Directions
A Lesson On Following Directions is a great way to remind your students how important it is to carefully read directions before beginning a task. This lesson is perfect to implement at the beginning of the school year or any time your class needs a reminder of how important this skill is. The lesson plan included will guide you through assessment, discussion and written reflection activities that will reveal to students the truth about how carefully they follow directions and help them make plans for becoming direction-following masters.

Monster Brain Breaks
Are your students revealing their inner monster? It’s time to give them a brain break! This collection of 25 brain breaks is easy to assemble so you can start using them in your classroom tomorrow. Brain breaks are a fun way to build your classroom community while relieving exhaustion and stress related to the high demands of today’s elementary learning environment. You and your students are sure to smile and laugh while participating in these fun, energizing tasks.

CLASS COMMUNITY BUILDING ACTIVITIES:

All About Me Back To School Activities Pack
These activities allow you to learn about your students during the first weeks of school and gives them the opportunity to share information about themselves in fun and creative ways.

All About Me Survey: This survey has students reflect on how they spend their time at school and on the weekends. Students will answer questions about improvements they want to make this school year, new things they want to try, what they are experts on, their classroom work preferences, and what it means to be ready to learn.

In The Spotlight:This light-hearted survey gives students the opportunity to share their personalities, styles, hobbies and favorites with their classmates. Perfect to display on the wall so students can read about their classmates during the first weeks of school and make connections with new friends who have similar interests.

Student Search: This is a great ice breaker for the first day of school. Students will mingle with their new classmates as they use this sheet to guide them in asking one another about secret talents and amazing interests. Once they find someone who matches the description in one of the Student Search boxes, they record that person’s name.

Summer Memories Glyph Back to School Activity
You never know what unplanned surprises the morning of the first day of school holds for you, making step 1 of this easy-to-understand activity a great option for first day morning work.

Questionnaire:The Summer Memories Glyph Q&A Sheet requires minimal guidance, allows you to get a first impression of your students and gives them something friendly to focus on as they get familiar with their new desk and take a peek around the classroom.

Coloring & Illustration: Later in the day, students will need to refer to the answers on their Q&A sheet when completing their Summer Memories Glyph Coloring. You will have a great opportunity to assess each student’s ability to follow multi-step directions during this portion of the activity.

Conversation:When coloring is complete, students can share their picture with a partner and talk about how the picture represents their summer using the sentence frames as needed. Since this is a first week activity, I prefer to assign partners so no one feels panicked or left out when picking partners.

This School Year Will Be The Best - Back To School Read Aloud and Class Book
This lesson plan outlines an interactive read aloud and writing activity for the book This School Year Will Be The Best! by Kay Winters.

Interactive Read Aloud: Students will observe and discuss how Renee Andriani’s illustrations add more meaning to Kay Winter’s story This School Year Will Be The Best!

Class Book Writing Activity: Students write their own page of a class book in which their words and illustrations work together to tell a detailed story about what will make this their best school year ever.

Class Book Printables: Printables include a title page and book pages with room for an illustration. Portrait and landscape format are included. Both primary and intermediate lined masters are included.

PARENT COMMUNICATION TOOLS:

Back To School Editable & Google Form Family Insight Parent Questionnaire
This questionnaire can be used at the beginning of the school year, or included in packets distributed to incoming students throughout the year. These questions are aimed at informing the teacher about each student’s home life and allows parents to share information and concerns with the teacher in a discrete way. This is a great way to collect insight from every parent about their child prior to the first round of parent teacher conferences.

This resource includes a ready-to-print questionnaire (PDF document), an editable questionnaire (PowerPoint document), and an editable Google Form that allows you to collect student information & family insight in digital format. You can send this Google Form as is, or make tweaks to meet your unique classroom needs before sending it to parents & guardians.

Meet the Teacher Back to School Letter
This Meet the Teacher page is a short letter that allows students and parents to get to know more about you at the beginning of the year. This page can be placed on students’ desks the morning of the first day along with their morning work, or can be used in your Back To School Night packet for parents.Included is a sample letter along with blank templates that can be edited using PowerPoint to display your own bio. Also included are blank stationery templates that can be used to coordinate your communication with parents throughout the year.
