Description
Subitizing is a great way to build number sense and building a strong foundation for addition and subtraction. This is a great whole group, small group or math center task.
Materials:
- Teacher Cards- Large Five Frame Cards with Red Dots (pages 3-8)
- Student Cards- Smaller Five Frame Cards with Red Dots (pages 9-10)
- Blank Five Frame Arrangement Mats (page 11)
- Recording Sheet
Directions:
- Flash the Five Frame Quick Image Card to the mathematician for 3-5 seconds.
- Mathematician builds the exact same image on their blank five frame mat.
(may use pennies, chips or other markers to cover the circles)
- Mathematician explains how he/she remembered the image.
Example Explanation:
I saw a set 2 on one side.
I saw one more on the other side.
