Description
This Set 1 has three forms of 16 task cards. Students will analyze the given number, then break it into two factors, one of which is a perfect square, then simplify completely. This skill is helpful when working with Pythagorean Theorem or solving quadratic equations.
These cards may be done as a class or in small groups, writing their answer on a whiteboard. Each team that is accurate earns a point, and the first team to be accurate earns a second point. If you want a quiet activity, spread out the cards in the classroom and allow students to walk to the problems and write their answers on the answer sheet. This topic is also available as worksheets, "Simplify Square Roots".
