Description

(5 pages, including answer key) Need some active engagement and formative assessment in your history classroom? This is a super fun and hands-on game to review key vocabulary of the Civil Rights Movement in United States history. It is a set of 16 flies that you cut out and scatter on a table. Students can use their hands, rulers, or actual fly swatters to swat the correct fly after a definition is read. The last page of the file includes 16 student friendly definitions.

This can be a whole class activity if your class is relatively small. In my class of 25 students, however, I break them into 5 groups. One person in each group is the "game show host" who is reading the definitions. Then the others play two against two to swat the correct flies. If they swat the correct fly, they get to keep that fly. At the end of the game, the team with the most flies wins.

This is an awesome game to be playing on a day you know admin might be stopping by - they will see students interacting, having fun, and something about swatting the flies gets students really engaged. You will love it!
