Description

This is the template for a foldable, pop-up number line to be included in an interactive math journal or notebook. Now students can have a handy number line to help visualize any set of numbers. The template is one printable page containing two foldables and the instructions. I've included two pictures in the preview, demonstrating how the finished foldable should look and stand (for those of you who are, like me, visual instruction people).

To complete this activity, students will need:

Scissors

Glue or tape

Pen

Paper clip (optional, but a fun kinesthetic addition)

Instructions:

1) Fill in numbers on the dots of the number line. (The sky's the limit on what kind of scale to use! One of my favorite ways to use this is to count by 1's but label with square roots when we work on our radicals unit.)

2) Cut out entire foldable.

3) Fold the two vertical fold lines forward and the horizontal fold line backward. This creates a base and support sides so the number line will stand.

4) Cut out bottom squares.

5) Tape base down to paper. Voila! A pop-up number line ready to go in your students' interactive math notebook!

My students loved using this resource for their work! They were engaged in the resource and didn’t have trouble getting going. Minimum preparation time for this resource, it was simple for me to use! I adapted it per my students grade level as need as well. I picked and use what was most appropriate for them!
