This hands-on, differentiated project allows students to create their own Food Chain, Food Web, or Energy Pyramid based on their individual learning levels. Perfect for small groups or independent work, this activity engages students with fun, interactive components and gives them a choice in how they demonstrate their understanding of ecosystems.

Included in the project are:

  • Clear Instructions: Simple, step-by-step guidelines that can be used for all levels of learners.
  • Cut-Out Animal Pieces: Pre-made animal cards for students to use in creating food chains, food webs, or energy pyramids.
  • Answer Key: Ready-to-go answers to support teachers
  • Rubrics: A comprehensive rubric to assess group collaboration, accuracy, and understanding.
  • Choice-Based Levels:
    • Level 1 (Food Chain): Students will create a simple food chain with organisms and arrows showing energy transfer.

Emphasis is on describing the conservation of matter and flow of energy into and out of various ecosystems, and on defining the boundaries of the system.
