Unit Bundle Overview: Empty Plates & Awareness Campaign
While designed for Grade 12, this unit is fully customizable and can be adapted to fit other grades and subjects focusing on social justice, food insecurity, and community engagement.
This bundled product includes two engaging and thought-provoking learning experiences designed to explore the issue of food insecurity.
- Empty Plates: Exploring Food Insecurity
This unit, originally designed for the Grade 12 HFA4U course, takes students on an in-depth journey into the social, economic, and environmental factors behind food insecurity, both in Canada and globally. Students will explore how food scarcity affects health and quality of life, and gain the tools needed to take meaningful action. - Culminating Task: Food Insecurity Awareness Campaign
For the final task, students will create an awareness campaign on food insecurity in a community of their choice. After researching the causes and impacts, they will develop creative ways to raise awareness and propose actionable solutions. Students can present their findings in various formats, such as a video, social media campaign, or a traditional presentation. This project can be used independently or in conjunction with the Empty Plates unit for a deeper, more comprehensive exploration of food insecurity.
