Static Friction:
- Occurs when objects are not sliding; prevents motion
- Always balances the applied force
- Has a maximum value given by the friction equation: Ffr < μs FN
Kinetic Friction:
- Occurs when objects are sliding
- Is always the same value, given by the friction equation: Ffr = μk FN
