This assignment is perfect to use for either in-class or homework. It can easily be done in a short amount of time and then opens up future lessons/activities to follow on the topic of fingerprints.
The focus on the assignment is a brief introduction to fingerprints and basic fingerprint patterns.
PART 1 - FINGERPRINT ARTICLE AND WORKSHEET
A one page article with 11 question providing a general overview of fingerprint science and history as used in forensic science.
PART 2 - FINGERPRINT ACTIVITY
Examples of the three major forms of fingerprints (loop, whorl, arch). Students are to look over the examples and then identify the major pattern found in 12 supplied prints. Finally students are to use a few items to get a view of their own fingerprints by completing a chart and identifying each of their fingers and the major print pattern found on it (pencil, tape, scrap paper is all that is required).
ANSWER KEY IS INCLUDED!
DOC & PDF Versions! The worksheets are all given as MS-Word documents (DOC) which will allow easy modifying to fit your class. PDF versions are also provided for ease of use/printing.
