Number Patterns & Rules - 5 lessons

This 5 lesson unit aims to answer the question: "What can number patterns tell us about number operations?"

Lesson 1 - focuses on exploring number patterns & sequences.

Lesson 2 - focuses on exploring common factors, multiples and prime numbers.

Lesson 3 - focuses on exploring square numbers and cube numbers.

Lesson 4 - focuses on exploring divisibility rules.

Lesson 5 - focuses on applying number patterns and rules, such as divisibility rules, multiplication patterns & number sequences.

Number Operations - 12 lessons

This 12 lesson unit aims to answer the question: "Are written methods the most efficient?" and embeds financial literacy throughout:

Lesson 1 - focuses on mental calculations and estimation.

Lesson 2 - focuses on adding and subtracting integers and decimals.

Lesson 3 - focuses on short multiplication.

Lesson 4 - focuses on long multiplication.

Lesson 5 - focuses on multiplying decimals by integers.

Lesson 6 - focuses on short division.

Lesson 7 - focuses on introducing long division.

Lesson 8 - focuses on practicing and applying long division.

Lesson 9 - focuses on evaluating division strategies.

Lesson 10 - focuses on using the four operations with different strategies.

Lesson 11 & 12 - a 2 lesson project where students plan a time travel expedition with a financial budget, and the need to justify their choice of methods for efficiency.

Division and Remainders - 4 lessons

This 4 lesson unit aims to answer the question: "Do remainders always matter?"

Lesson 1 - focuses on the role of divisibility rules and factors in relation to remainders.

Lesson 2 - focuses on remainders as fractions and decimals in context.

Lesson 3 - focuses on contextualising remainders and how and why to format remainders as fractions, decimals, or to ignore them or round them.

Lesson 4 - a short project lesson where students apply their understanding of division and remainders to problem solve in real life scenarios.

Order of Operations - 3 lessons

This 3 lesson unit aims to answer the question: "Is order always important?"

(Note: All 3 versions are in this bundle, including BIDMAS / BODMAS and PEMDAS/ PEDMAS).

Lesson 1 - focuses on introducing PEMDAS, and the Need for Order, perfect for helping your students understand and articulate why we need an agreed-upon order of operations.

Lesson 2 - Focuses on applying PEMDAS, through calculations and real life problems, perfect for helping your students understand and successfully use an order of operations.

Lesson 3 - Takes PEMDAS out of the textbook and into a real world engineering challenge! Students will apply the order of operations to solve a complex, multi-stage project: redesigning your school’s emergency warning system and building a custom housing structure for its hardware.
