This is a complete novel unit for Fourth Grade Rats by Jerry Spinelli. I created this for a small guided reading group. It includes lesson plans, a student packet, and an answer key. Perfect for beginning of 4th grade readers (or high 3rd graders or low 5th graders) it provides practice in a number of skills, focusing on making connections with characters and understanding causes for their actions.

For an easier level, I have a unit for Class Clown by Johanna Hurwitz or for a harder level, I have a unit for The Witches by Roald Dahl.
