Description

Students are amazed that by dropping objects and timing the fall, they can calculate-with incredible accuracy-the gravitational acceleration of Earth! I have students use three different types of objects so that they can understand that regardless of the object, the gravitational acceleration of Earth is not changed and remains constant. On this lab it is INCREDIBLY important to do class averages. Since there is such possibility for human error, averaging everyone’s results together provides with very reasonable results. It’s a great time to discuss human reaction time and error with your students! You will notice that the dummy data for this lab does not include class averages so that absent students can just get to the core of the lab without having to search for class average results.
