Free, quick, and easy to grade. My students improved from 47% to 63% proficient or advanced on the California State Test the year that I added 6 Algebra 1 mastery tests to my Algebra 2 curriculum (2011). I no longer teach Algebra 1 so I don’t have data for that. This file includes a 10 question Mastery Test on addition of integers, a 10 question Mastery Test on subtraction of integers, and both answer keys. The questions have been carefully designed to cover all aspects of a topic using problems of easy to medium difficulty.
I require students to get at least 9 out of 10 questions correct, or they have to retest until they do. (They get an ‘A’ or a zero.) I give these just before the chapter test. (I no longer give the mid-chapter quiz). While keeping it simple, this will identify who fully understands and who need a little help. It also makes it easy to identify any areas of difficulty.
