Description
A Multi-Sensory Approach for Lasting Results
The Start Spot Program© handwriting practice pages are intentionally designed to reinforce the correct starting points and stroke sequences of letters through a layered, multi-sensory approach. This program uses kinesthetic and tactile learning to create muscle memory.
- Developed by an occupational therapy (OT) professional, using an evidence-based approach.
- Tactile Feedback: Prepare each writing page by placing a sheet of fine to medium grit sandpaper underneath it. This provides texture that increases motor awareness.
- Kinesthetic Warm-Up: Air writing is a gross motor technique where children use large, deliberate arm motions to form letters in the air before putting pencil to paper. This helps them reinforce a mental map of each letter.
- Targeted Practice: Children finger-trace the large model letter, then add a "start dot" to other letters on the page to reinforce proper sequencing.
- Repetition with a Twist: Rainbow writing encourages repeated tracing of each letter using different colors, which increases engagement and visual reinforcement.
The Start Spot Program© method is perfect for children who are:
- Just starting to learn how to form lowercase letters.
- Struggling with letter reversals or retaining the visual image of letters.
- In need of handwriting repair and a reset on formation habits.
- Benefiting from multi-sensory learning modalities
By revisiting the same pages over multiple sessions, you can prevent fatigue while continuously reinforcing motor memory. This comprehensive program helps children internalize letter formation and recognize forms across various spatial orientations, supporting both beginners and students needing remediation.
We hope you will enjoy our FREE SAMPLE pages and let us know how you liked the program! I've included the first 7 letters in the program for you. If you like it, please consider supporting my store and purchasing the full Start Spot Program©!
