It includes four Listening and Reading Google forms quizzes, which have questions on a variety of topics. There are two differentiated quizzes in terms of difficulty (levels 2, 3 and 4; some questions cross over).

Research from the Education Endowment Foundation (EEF) states that using digital technology to support learning can add + 4 months onto student progress. By effectively integrating regular quizzes, such as these, into your Curriculum, you will not only be saving time with grading (and not having to create them in the first place), but also inducing retrieval and memory retention, thus improving student performance.

Use in distance learning, hybrid teaching, face-to-face teaching, homework, revision, consolidation, retrieval tasks, and/or assessments. All Quizzes work very well on any device.

How do I access these Form Quizzes?

Simply click on each link in the attached PDF next to the quiz name. It’ll give you the option to make a copy. That’s it! Once copied, organize in your Google drive as you wish. Side note: Some school email address have restrictions which prevent file sharing. Ask you tech department or use a personal Google mail account.

How do I assign to students?

To assign a quiz to your students do the following:

• Open the copied Form in your Google drive you’d like to assign for your students.

• In the top right hand corner click the purple button ‘Send’.

• There are three ‘send via’ options – click the one in the middle (link).

• Once opened, click ‘shorten url’. Copy that link.

• Now paste that link into a Google Classroom or Microsoft Teams assignment, or simply email to students.

Once students complete the quiz, go back to your saved Form in your Google drive. You’ll see their answers immediately in the ‘responses’ tab. You can see all responses collated in a spreadsheet by clicking the green Google sheets icon (top right hand corner).

Can I use with Microsoft Teams?

Yes. Share the link of the Google Form inside a Microsoft Teams assignment, as per the directions above. You will need a Google Drive account in order to save the form and then go back to it to check the grades.

Can I use with Schoology/Canvas?

Yes. In Schoology, you can go to Install App and select ‘Google Drive Resource App'. In Canvas, you can click on the Embed icon and add the Google Forms link there.

Do students need a Google mail account?

No. Only you need one in order to save the quizzes and see student’s responses. All students need is the link to complete the quiz.

Why aren’t long answers graded?

I've only allocated points in multiple choice questions. Questions where students have to type (write), I've left it as a zero point allocation. It would be impossible to put every single possible combination answer and the Google form would mark it as incorrect if, for instance, the student misspelt a word or made a typo.

For those longer answers, students have to self-check their work based on the feedback I inputted. They can do this when they submit – and then the teacher can too.

You can change the point allocation in the form (click answer key), and the grade once students have completed it (open a response and click the little arrows in the top right hand corner of a question).

Why aren’t checkboxes questions graded correctly?

Frustratingly, in checkbox questions (where students have to choose more than one answer) the Form gives full marks if the student gets all the correct answers, but gives 0 marks if, for instance, they get 2/3. The only way around this is to check it afterwards and change the grading manually.

The audio file isn’t working. What can I do?

The sound file is on an internet-based location. If the student’s internet connection is lagging, they may have difficulty listening to it. Similarly, if a student is logged on their school account there may be restrictions which prevent it from playing.

To overcome this, simply download the file. Once you click the link, wait for it to open in a new tab and then click the down arrow in the top right hand corner. They can now listen to it form their computer; you can also send them the file or insert it into an assignment.

Can students do the quiz in more than one sitting?

Not at the moment. It won’t save if they come out of it. However, Google have announced that this feature will be introduced later in 2021. Forms will automatically save draft responses. Students will be able to complete a form quiz in multiple sittings.

Do I have to use the whole Form Quiz, or can I choose which questions I’d like to assign to my students?

You don’t have to assign a whole quiz if you don’t want to. You can choose specific questions. To do so, do the following:

Make a copy of the Form Quiz you’d like to copy the questions from, using the links in this PDF. Then:

1. Go to forms.google.com.

2. Click Blank.

3. A new form will open.

4. On the right, click Import questions.

5. Find the form quiz you want to import questions from - Select.

6. On the right, click the box next to each section you want to add.

7. Click Import questions.

That’s it. Now you have a new Form Quiz you can assign to your students with only the questions you want, grading included. You can mix and match and design a new quiz in no time.

‘Security’ measures against the evils of Google Translate

All texts have been uploaded as images. All questions in French have also been snipped and added as a picture. This makes it impossible to copy and paste into Google translate. It also prevents the web page from automatically suggesting to translate into English. None of this is completely fail proof – nothing is unfortunately. More tech savvy students will find a way to sidestep it, but it’s a lot of work.
