"The students really enjoyed using the simulation to explain the estates. It was much easier for my kids to understand why the 3rd Estate revolted in France. We had a great discussion after completing the simulation."

Description
A quick way for your students to really understand the inequality of the Estates System in 18th century France and how they led to the French Revolution
I use this in my class to help students understand the economics of the Estates System and they NEVER forget how unfair it is.
Everything from pay for each estate, feudal taxes, frivolous spending of Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette, the luxury of the clergy, bad harvests, and rising bread prices are covered.

Perfect! So helpful and just what I needed. Thank you!
The students really enjoyed using the simulation to explain the estates. It was much easier for my kids to understand why the 3rd Estate revolted in France. We had a great discussion after completing the simulation.
My students were extremely engaged during this simulation and had so much fun with it. I had members of the Third Estate getting frustrated, one student said, "Can we rebel?" One noble from the 2nd estate even offered to help pay their taxes! It was great.
What a great way to get the whole class involved and understanding a time in France when the peasants had to bear a very heavy load and tax burden. This simulation was very engaging and evoked emotion and the students could see why the peasants wanted to revolt. Great resource that I would definitely use again. Thank you very much.
My students loved the simulation (maybe a little too much). I modified it quite a bit to fit my 7th grade learners because it's geared towards older kids. I also needed to modify some of the numbers to fit my small class of 17 kids. I am considering adding additional slides about the corvee system and Estates-General voting scenarios in the future. However, I appreciate that this resource was easy to edit and also came with so much that I didn't HAVE to fix or change. Thank you! This saved me so much time!
This was so much fun! The kids loved it and were talking about revolting after the second month haha. Paired great with the letter assignment. I recommend having money paperclipped into the needed amount if possible. Made it easier on the tax collector. The only thing I wish was different was that I couldn't edit the PowerPoint. I wanted to give more money to my tax collector, add a few more situation slides that messed with the money (like giving some peasants more and some less one month), and add a few more months, but wasn't able to.
I created a handout that had the kids track their balance at the beginning and end of the month and write down what had happened. Overall great resource and I will use it again.
Both my regular and honors classes enjoyed this activity. Quote, "I'd revolt, too!" That's when you know that got it!
fun way to introduce the estate systems in france! My students love it every year!!!
