Description

This Friday Check-In resource is designed to evaluate students' abilities to decode (read) and encode (spell) words accurately and fluently, in alignment with phonics and phonemic awareness skills. It provides a comprehensive tool for teachers to assess the progress of early readers and spellers, specifically targeting foundational literacy skills in early elementary grades (K-2). This resource is structured to help identify areas of strength and areas for improvement in students' ability to:

  • Decode (Reading): The ability to recognize and sound out words by applying knowledge of letter-sound relationships, phonetic patterns, and sight words.
  • Encode (Spelling): The ability to spell words correctly by applying phonics rules, letter-sound correspondence, and knowledge of spelling patterns.
  • Sentence Dictation: A practice where a teacher or speaker reads a sentence aloud, and the student or listener writes it down as accurately as possible
  • Red Words: The ability to spell red words is an essential skill for young readers and writers, and it plays a critical role in developing literacy.

This resource includes:

These are a nice resource however, I wish they were editable. We use different terminology and we have more than 3-5 words for the new spelling pattern. I like the page with the dictation option.
