Description

Students use this FUN, creative, and artistic approach to learning - they convert math into the creation of a human! Each time a student answers a math problem, they will get answer A or answer B. Answer A will tell students to draw one item on the blank body, and Answer B will tell students to draw a different item on the blank body. According to their answers, they will create their own unique and custom human! Students love seeing each other's creations, and are motivated to see the assignment through. They also can't wait to see the correct answer human and see how close they got!

Sadly I am not the creator of the amazing FACEing Maths, but I am a HUGE FAN! I own their book of blank lessons and created one specifically for 7th grade One-Step Algebra with Rational Coefficients. Students will review how to add, subtract, multiply, and divide both positive and negative whole numbers, fractions, and decimals. That's right - all that, in a FUN WAY!

My students needed help with the problems as they went - because these standards are HARD! I created a digital, independent "HELP!" interactive slideshow to help students through the assignment. I post it in google classroom as a resource to use while they complete the art challenge. Students can click on the problem they are struggling with, and either watch Mrs. Kane or a YouTube video on this exact type of problem. Students can then attempt the FACEing math problem with confidence.

As I do not own the rights to the FACEing math products, I have included in this download a link to their website and products. If you like this lesson, I hope you will go to http://www.faceingmath.com/ and support them. There are hundreds of pre-made Faceing Math lessons, as well as blank lessons for you to custom design. Thank you for supporting them, as you support me!

PS: FACEing Math art makes great Back To School Night displays ;-)

*If you use Houghton Mifflin Harcourt's GoMath program, this activity is a review of Module 6.

Apply properties of operations as strategies to add, subtract, factor, and expand linear expressions with rational coefficients.
Solve multi-step real-life and mathematical problems posed with positive and negative rational numbers in any form (whole numbers, fractions, and decimals), using tools strategically. Apply properties of operations to calculate with numbers in any form; convert between forms as appropriate; and assess the reasonableness of answers using mental computation and estimation strategies. For example: If a woman making $25 an hour gets a 10% raise, she will make an additional 1/10 of her salary an hour, or $2.50, for a new salary of $27.50. If you want to place a towel bar 9 3/4 inches long in the center of a door that is 27 1/2 inches wide, you will need to place the bar about 9 inches from each edge; this estimate can be used as a check on the exact computation.
