Description

Want a fun and engaging fraction activity? This Fraction Name Craft is just that!

Students will need to creatively write their first and last name. Then for each of their name, they need to determine how many equal parts their name has, its unit fraction, the fraction of vowels, and the fraction of consonants!

When done, there are two pages with sets of questions. Page three will require students to add and subtract fractions with the same denominator. Page four requires students to add and subtract fractions with different denominators (assuming they don't have the same amount of letters in their first and last name- if they do, you can challenge them by including their middle name initial to their first name!)

Other Math Resources:

-Fantastic Fractions Booklet!

-Build a Snowman! Multiplication & Long Division Review

-Magical Multiplication! - Unicorn Theme

- Geometry Name Project

Explain why a fraction 𝘢/𝘣 is equivalent to a fraction (𝘯 × 𝘢)/(𝘯 × 𝘣) by using visual fraction models, with attention to how the number and size of the parts differ even though the two fractions themselves are the same size. Use this principle to recognize and generate equivalent fractions.
Understand addition and subtraction of fractions as joining and separating parts referring to the same whole.
Decompose a fraction into a sum of fractions with the same denominator in more than one way, recording each decomposition by an equation. Justify decompositions, e.g., by using a visual fraction model. Examples: 3/8 = 1/8 + 1/8 + 1/8; 3/8 = 1/8 + 2/8; 2 1/8 = 1 + 1 + 1/8 = 8/8 + 8/8 + 1/8.
