MORE INFORMATION:
- Fun alternative to standard worksheets to provide variety & extra practice beyond 1st Grade, including some SPED / special education contexts, but can be used in 1st Grade too, depending on ability.
- Students must have basic spelling ability to uncover the 4 or 5-letter hidden words that feature in these math puzzles.
- 15 puzzles with answer keys: Addition up to 20, Subtraction up to 20, Doubles (mainly to 20 but including easier larger numbers to 50), Near Doubles (mostly single digit numbers), Number Bonds to 10 (Addition & Subtraction Facts included in all following puzzles), Number Bonds to 11, to 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20.
- Each puzzle contains 21 completed calculations, with 4 or 5 deliberate errors. There's a letter printed beneath each calculation - the ones beneath an error will spell out a mystery animal when rearranged.
- As they play at being error detectives, children may not realize they are working! Spotting common errors may help them transfer their checking skills to their own notebooks too!
- If students have assembled the correct letters but find unscrambling the word too hard, you can have them work in pairs or give clues, such as the first letter of the word or a fact about the animal.
- The animal printed on each puzzle is for illustration purposes and not related to the answer.
- Answer keys can be printed or displayed for self-checking if required.
- To save printing, & to use again and again, laminate the puzzles and have students complete them with dry-wipe markers. Or place them in dry-erase sleeves. Alternatively, use the digital version that has been set up for you on TPT's Easel - students can use the pen tool to complete them.
