WHAT IS A 'CAN YOU MAKE IT?' CHALLENGE
For each challenge, students are given a number and 5 or 6 single digits.
Then they get to work and try to create equations that will equal the number using only the digits provided. The equations can be simple or quite complex.

INSTRUCTIONS
There are 3 different options for the instructions provided.
- Basic – these suggest using +, -, x, ÷ to create the equation.
- Moderate – these suggest using +, -, x, ÷ and fractions to create the equation
- Advanced – these suggest using +, -, x, ÷, fractions, decimals and parentheses or brackets.
2 DIFFERENT FORMATS
These challenges come in 2 different versions.
Poster Format
For printing, interactive whiteboards or assigning in Google Classroom using Easel. These can be printed and displayed as is or enlarged on a copier. They can also be projected onto an interactive whiteboard or assigned to students through Google Classroom.
Worksheet Format
Each printable worksheet has 4 different challenges. Print or assign in Google Classroom using Easel. All 24 of the challenges from the posters are included on 6 different worksheets.
PRINTABLE and DIGITAL
Both the Poster Format and the Worksheet Format are provided as printable and digital activities,
TPT EASEL ACTIVITY
- You can access the Easel version via your purchases page or via the product listing page.
- This will give you access to preview, edit and assign the digital version.
- Easel Activities can be assigned to students via Google Classroom or a link.
- Both the poster format and the worksheet format can be used as a TpT Easel Activity.
These Spring math activities are a great way to challenge and extend students as they attempt to create mathematical equations with a limited number of digits.
Children love the challenge of trying to be the first one to make an equation or trying to be the one who makes the most complex equation or makes the most equations.
