Description

This is a mini-project or PBL activity where after learning how to find the equation of a line and how to calculate slope, students will create a graph of their name using only straight lines and determine the equation of each line. You determine how many slanted lines need to be included. There is a grading rubric provided as well as a sample.

For me, students who created a more elaborate graph (using their name vs. initials, using block or bubble letters to write their name, ...) receive the full possible number of points. Students who only wrote their initials could only earn a maximum of 8 points for that category.

You can differentiate by assigning only initials to lower level students and requiring a name for grade-level students.

This project can be used for 3 - 5 days, depending on the level of the class and whether you want your students working on it at home for at least half the time or not.
